Iamthemorning

St. Petersburg's Iamthemorning is a Russian progressive and chamber rock duo fronted by vocalist Marjana Semkina and pianist Gleb Kolyadin. The pair surfaced in the early 2010s, blending classical, rock, jazz, and electronic elements into a distinctive style. Both musicians, who hold formal classical training and maintain ongoing studies in their fields, serve as the project's sole official members yet regularly enlist supporting players for studio sessions and concerts. Their moniker derives from an Oceansize track. The duo launched their recording career in 2012 with the debut album ~. Kscope Records then issued their follow-up, Belighted, in 2014, which included contributions from bassist Colin Edwin and drummer Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree. The 2015 release From the House of Arts captured their concert performances. Lighthouse appeared on Kscope in 2016; Marcel van Limbeek, known for his work with Tori Amos, handled the mix, and the sessions took place across London, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. Edwin and Harrison again supplied the rhythm section, while additional elements included chamber strings and vocals from Mariusz Duda of Lunatic Soul and Riverside. That August, Lighthouse earned Album of the Year honors at the Progressive Music Awards. Ocean Sounds, the companion soundtrack to their in-studio concert film, surfaced in 2018, followed in 2019 by the studio album The Bell, which drew inspiration from 19th-century song cycles.
