Led by the Los Angeles-based siblings Andrew and Daniel Aged, the project Inc. started life as Teen Inc. and made its first appearance in 2010 via an independently issued 7-inch coupling “Fountains” with “Friends of the Night.” Both cuts displayed an endearing rough-demo character whose influences formed an idiosyncratic mix of early-eighties post-punk and the more polished sophisti-pop and R&B that flourished from the middle to the end of that decade. Also in 2010 the Aged brothers contributed to Nite Jewel’s Am I Real? EP by helping shape its title track. After excising “Teen” from the group name, the pair signed with 4AD and delivered the three-song EP 3 in 2011. The productions on that release drew clearest inspiration from the late-eighties work of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Teddy Riley, as well as Prince’s contemporaneous recordings, yet carried an off-center slant. The brothers further polished their approach on the 2013 full-length No World, still released through 4AD. Skilled players in their own right, Andrew and Daniel have since recorded and toured with high-profile artists such as Raphael Saadiq, Beck, and Cee Lo Green.
