Incendio, a new age trio, evokes a tranquil sonic atmosphere suggestive of ambient spiritualism and meditation. Guitarist Liza Carbe, keyboardist/guitarist Jean-Pierre Durand, and guitarist/composer Jim Stubblefield form the ensemble, which fuses a signature ethnic style with traditional flamenco elements. Prior to the group’s formation, each member had already established distinction through separate endeavors.

Durand and Carbe both supplied music for the television programs Sister Sister, JAG, and Entertainment Tonight. Carbe holds a classical guitar degree from Cal State Northridge and has performed alongside guitarists Lindsay Buckingham, Santana’s Leon Patillo, and folksinger Sara Hickman. A native of Peru, Durand is a self-taught musician whose foundation rests chiefly in R&B, although his interests also encompass drum’n’bass, techno, jazz, Celtic, and orchestral works. Stubblefield gained recognition for his masterful command of Middle Eastern music, including a collaboration in the early ’90s with famed Kuwaiti singer Waleed Hamad, and issued several solo albums before crossing into jazz.

The trio’s debut album, Misterioso, appeared in July 2000 as a spiraling set of modern compositions labeled “nuevo flamenco,” exploring melodic rumba and Cuban-styled pieces.
