Jennifer Turner, recognized as a singer, songwriter, and musician, began her musical journey on guitar alongside Natalie Merchant. Her appearance as a guest musician on the 1995 solo release Tigerlily by Merchant helped shape a distinctive approach to playing that directed her toward forming Furslide. Together with bassist Jason Lader and drummer Adam MacDougall, she secured a contract with Virgin early in 1998, collaborating with Nellee Hooper to produce the band's inaugural album, Adventure. College radio stations picked up the record, while performances alongside Lenny Kravitz, Smashing Pumpkins, and Alanis Morissette helped Furslide move 25,000 units of Adventure. Following this wave of acclaim and rapid attention, Turner stepped away from the scene. The intensity of mainstream oversight prompted her to seek a break. Reappearing in 2001, she launched her independent imprint Caboose along with newly written material. Adopting the name Inner, she expressed a sweetly tainted presence, which found its way onto her debut effort under that name, Lovetheonlyway, issued in May 2002.
