Biography
Jacques Boyvin, a French composer and organist, received the chance to supervise construction of the new organ at Notre Dame in Rouen. Robert Clicquot rebuilt the instrument, fitting it with more than forty ranks, four manuals, and manual-to-pedal connections. Boyvin issued collections of organ music that each contained eight suites designed to display the instrument’s full range of colors. His pieces employed such textures as fugues, plein jeu, duos, trios, and dialogues. He also produced the practical treatise “Traite abrege de l'accompagnement,” a concise guide to stop management on the organ.
