Biography
Jaime Roos first encountered music through his uncle, a professional singer who took him to jazz clubs and awakened his enduring passion there. He took his initial guitar lesson at age 12 and later studied classical guitar. In 1969 he started the band Los Robbers. At 21 he chose to launch a solo career, relocating to Spain and composing for the first time. The years that followed proved difficult, forcing him to accept any available work during his stay in Paris simply to get by. His debut album, Candombe Del 31, appeared in 1977; it was followed by Para Espantar El Sueño, which merged rock with Latin rhythms such as milonga, bolero, and tango. After a period in Holland, Jaime Roos returned to Uruguay and toured the country in 1993 while releasing the compilation Primeras Páginas. Contraseñas came out in 2000.
