Biography
Jaki Graham, a soul singer based in the Midlands, rose to prominence in Britain during the 1980s as one of the country’s foremost R&B and dance acts, propelled by a succession of chart successes. Three of those singles—“Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” “Round and Round,” and “Set Me Free”—reached the U.K. Top Ten. She also supplied her sensual vocals to tracks appearing on releases by UB40, Kim Wilde, Paul Hardcastle, and Afrika Bambaataa. Although she attained star status at home, her profile in the United States stayed limited to the dance market, aside from a major club breakthrough with “Ain’t Nobody.” After the 1980s her recorded output grew less frequent and less visible, with many albums issued solely in Japan, where she retains an enormous following.
