Born on 4 August 1983 in San Germán, Puerto Rico, Janina Irizarry first captured attention across her homeland by claiming victory in the opening season of the reality competition Objetivo Fama. The program made its initial broadcast in 2004 on Univisión Puerto Rico before the Telefutura network carried it into U.S. households, drawing substantial viewership across Latin America and virtually guaranteeing mainstream traction for its champion. Capitalizing on that exposure, Irizarry signed with Univision Music Group, after which her opening album, Todo De Mí, ascended to the summit of the Puerto Rican rankings. Two singles from the project, “Porque Tu No Estas” and “No Me Arrepiento,” became radio staples, while another selection on the set came from fellow contestant Kany García. The label moved quickly to issue the follow-up, Contra La Corriente, which adhered to the same blueprint by enlisting seasoned composers to supply a string of agreeable Latin-pop numbers that evaporated from recollection the moment playback ended.
