Biography
Jason Crosby, a multi-instrumentalist who also sings and writes songs, established himself through extensive work as a sideman and in studios, collaborating with numerous fellow musicians prior to his association with Blue Rose Music. That partnership led to the 2017 issuance of his initial solo album, Cryptologic. Having begun performing during his teenage years, he has since appeared alongside figures including Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Dave Matthews, Susan Tedeschi, and Pete Seeger, among others. His own initial releases encompassed Out of the Box from 2000 and Four Chords and Seven Notes Ago from 2003, while additional recording credits include projects with Zen Tricksters, God Street Wine, Phillip Phillips, Assembly of Dust, and Robert Randolph & the Family Band. Following his relocation from New York to California in 2013, Crosby linked with Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, gaining access to fresh listeners in that setting and advancing from street performances to sold-out headline concerts. He commenced work on his debut solo studio record in early 2016 alongside producer Karl Derfler, whose past efforts involve Tom Waits and Dave Matthews. Crosby handled all instrumentation himself for the opening portion of the project, covering keyboard, guitar, bass, violin, trumpet, vibraphone, marimba, timpani, banjo, and ukulele, before shifting to group sessions for the remainder. Tim Bluhm from The Mother Hips contributed songwriting to that latter section, with participation from his bandmates as well as Elliot Peck of Midnight North. The completed ten-track album Cryptologic, issued via Blue Rose Music, features tracks such as "Roads Are Torn" along with an instrumental take on "What The World Needs Now is Love."
