Biography
Jochen Distelmeyer led one of Germany's leading indie rock acts from 1990 until 2007. The group, Blumfeld, took its name from a Kafka short story and specialized in experimental, politically charged material delivered almost exclusively in German, setting it apart from most contemporaries of the period. This distinction positioned Blumfeld among the originators of the Hamburger Schule, the movement known for its grungy experimental textures and lyrics that scrutinized social issues.
Over the course of its existence the band's sonic approach shifted, first drawing parallels to Pavement in its formative years before adopting a more pop-friendly sheen in the 2000s. Following the 2007 dissolution, Distelmeyer began a solo trajectory that commenced with the 2009 album Heavy.
