Biography
Johan Palm, a pop vocalist from Sweden, first gained widespread attention in 2008 through his appearance on the domestic edition of Idol, the local adaptation of the British series Pop Idol. Born on March 3, 1992, in the town of Mjölby, he ultimately placed fourth in that season, with Kevin Borg claiming the top spot. During his run on the program he interpreted a string of English-language tracks, including Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida,” Suede’s “Beautiful Ones,” ABBA’s “The Winner Takes All,” Alice Cooper’s “Poison,” the Supremes’ “You Can’t Hurry Love,” Starship’s “We Built This City,” the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” the Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love,” the Doobie Brothers’ “Long Train Running,” and Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’.”
In the wake of his strong showing, Sony Music extended him a contract, after which he began work on his debut full-length album alongside an array of seasoned producers and songwriters. The resulting English-language project, My Antidote, appeared in 2009 and quickly climbed to the Top Five on the Swedish albums chart while delivering its lead single, “Emma-Lee,” to the summit of the domestic singles ranking.
