Born on September 4, 1970 in the small Arizona community of San Manuel, John Garcia earned widespread recognition as the frontman of Kyuss, the pioneering desert rock outfit whose hazy, riff-driven sound left a lasting imprint on stoner rock. Once Kyuss dissolved in 1995, he remained immersed in that scene by collaborating with Slo Burn, Unida, and Hermano across the closing years of the 1990s and throughout the following decade. In 2010 he rejoined Kyuss cofounders Nick Oliveri and Brant Bjork under the banner Kyuss Lives!, yet objections from Josh Homme and Scott Reeder forced the group to adopt the name Vista Chino by 2012. Amid these commitments Garcia still carved out space for individual work, issuing his self-titled debut solo album on Napalm Records in 2014. Two years later came his second solo release, The Coyote Who Spoke in Tongues, with John Garcia and the Band of Gold appearing in early 2019.
