Biography
Bongzilla, based in Madison, WI, devote themselves to an exceptionally dense and ominous strain of sludge-core that revolves entirely around their singular devotion to weed. The quartet assembled in the mid-'90s, consisting of Mike "Muleboy" Makela on guitar and vocals, Jeff Schultz on guitar, Nate Dethlefsen on bass, and Mike Henry on drums. After releasing an early demo, they delivered the Methods for Attaining Extreme Altitudes EP in 1998. A succession of abusively heavy, corrosively down-tuned albums on Relapse Records followed, among them 1999's Stash, 2002's Gateway, 2004's Apogee, and 2005's Amerijuanican.
