Emerging in the mid-1990s from Wilmington, North Carolina, Weedeater first took form as a side endeavor for vocalist and bassist "Dixie" Dave Collins while he remained active in sludge metal cult favorites Buzzov*en. Following that group's official dissolution in 1998, Collins shifted his primary focus to Weedeater, which issued its first two sludgecore albums at the start of the new millennium: 2001's And Justice for Y'All and 2002's Sixteen Tons, each helmed by stoner specialist Billy Anderson. Collins subsequently spent a brief period playing bass for Bongzilla and contributed his four strings to fellow Wilmington outfit Sourvein, yet he maintained his core partnership with Weedeater guitarist Shep and drummer Keko. The trio maintained a rigorous touring schedule alongside acts such as C.O.C. and Alabama Thunderpussy before finally completing their third full-length, God Luck and Good Speed, issued by Southern Lord in 2007.
