Biography
In the summer of 2003 Brent Anderson, handling bass and vocals, joined forces with Will Fiore on guitar and vocals plus drummer Rod Fiore to launch Zoroaster. The trio had previously worked together in the short-lived Terminal Doom Explosion before rediscovering their common affinity for raw, dense sludge-doom through near-nightly rehearsals and shows across their hometown region of Atlanta, Georgia. Their approach reflected the legacy of Black Sabbath alongside Venom and Celtic Frost, incorporated touches from later doom acts such as Sleep and Electric Wizard, and drew equally from regional sludge pioneers Eyehategod and Acid Bath. Battle Kommand Records took notice of a 2005 demo that, following minor revisions, appeared the next year as the band’s self-titled debut EP. Strong critical response secured a contract with Southern Lord, which issued the first full-length album Dog Magic in 2007. Two years later Voice of Saturn surfaced on the group’s own Terminal Doom imprint. Maintaining their blend of classic doom with psychedelic and shoegaze textures, Zoroaster released Matador via E1 in 2010.
