Biography
An artist steeped in Americana, John Vincent III weaves soulful folk-pop melodies together with lyrics that lay bare personal vulnerability. Acclaim greeted his unvarnished 2019 debut album Songs from the Valley for its pastoral textures and everyday storytelling, whereas the more refined 2023 follow-up Songs for the Canyon leaned into a smoother brand of Americana pop.
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and now splitting time between Houston and Los Angeles, John Vincent III launched his recording career in 2014. Early influences such as Bon Iver, the Districts, and the Doors shaped the 2015 EP Mountain Sounds, after which he sharpened his poetic lyricism and driving guitar style on the 2016 album High Ridge & Stones. Mainstream attention arrived with 2019’s Songs from the Valley and its widely streamed single “Next to You.” In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic the next year, Vincent and his girlfriend spent eight months crisscrossing the United States in a Ford transit van. The 2023 release Songs for the Canyon, which Vincent co-produced with Tom Elmhirst (Adele, David Bowie), transformed those travels into songs whose tender reflections on love, life, loss, and hope rooted his Americana sensibilities in the shared, sunlit folk-rock spirit of the ‘60s Laurel Canyon scene.
