Jordan Max, an Oldham-based British singer and songwriter whose work carries a dark neo-soul edge, pairs a heavy-hearted croon with brooding melodies that call to mind Zak Abel, John Newman, Jacob Banks, and Raleigh Ritchie. Drawing on a fusion of alternative pop, R&B, and hip-hop, he first surfaced in 2016 by issuing the well-received singles “Hell” and “Let Me Lay Down” through his Bandcamp page. March 2017 saw the arrival of his debut EP, Only One Is King, which led to a support slot alongside the rising Brit-soul artist Jorja Smith and a publishing deal with Danger Mouse. In 2018 Max built on the momentum of Only One Is King by releasing his second EP, War, through Neon Gold Records.
