Biography
After beginning as a standard garage outfit formed by teenage friends jamming purely for enjoyment, the mangue beat group Jorge Cabeleira e o Dia em que Seremos Todos Inúteis broke through at the Recife Rock Show Festival by blending baião with rock & roll. At that stage known as Os Mordomos, the musicians had prepared two tracks yet confronted a festival rule permitting only one submission per act. They therefore devised an alternate name, entered twice, captured second and third place, and saw the substitute designation become permanent.
The Recife Rock Show result earned Jorge Cabeleira a slot at the second edition of the Abril Pro Rock Festival, which led to appearances at further events. Sony Music signed the band in 1993, and the debut album appeared two years later. “Carolina” received extensive national airplay plus an MTV Brazil video, though the record moved only 10,000 copies and prompted the label to drop the group. After a stretch of obscurity, drummer Davi—who abandoned music for law school—was replaced by Joaquim.
