Emerging from Brazil, the rock ensemble Los Hermanos burst onto national charts in 1999 via the track "Anna Julia." Their songs explore youthful romance despite the raw intensity in the instrumentation. Assembled during 1997, the lineup featured Marcelo Camelo handling vocals and guitar alongside Rodrigo Amarante on flute and vocals, Patrick Laplan on bass, Rodrigo Barba at the drums, and Bruno Metuna on keyboards. In the opening months of 1998 they produced a pair of demo recordings—one containing Amor and Folia during January, the other featuring Chora that September—which their early supporters duplicated and circulated. Growing attention from journalists led to multiple conversations in the press. A copy reached Paulo André, who organized the Abril Pro Rock Festival held in Recife PE, prompting an invitation to Superdemo, the premier alternative showcase in Rio. After being hailed as the event's standout act, the musicians entered the studio for their debut full-length release, the self-titled Los Hermanos from 1999, home to the breakout single "Anna Julia."
