Jota Quest

Jota Quest achieved its first widespread recognition at the dawn of the 2000s through a pop approach steeped in soul influences. After spending two years as non-professional performers, the band—whose name derives from the cartoon character Johnny Quest—accumulated sufficient resources by playing college shows that typically drew around 2,000 people, allowing them to produce their initial independent release. Signed to Sony, they built visibility by opening for Skank, another Minas Gerais act, and various other groups. Their debut album J. Quest, issued in 1996, contained the nationwide hits "As Dores do Mundo" and "Encontrar Alguém." The follow-up De Volta ao Planeta delivered another success via "Fácil." Oxigênio appeared in 2000.
