Natiruts

Natiruts, a reggae-rooted ensemble, originated in Brasília (Distrito Federal) during 1994 while operating under the name Nativus. The collective issued its independent CD Nativus in 1997, scoring a hit via “Presente de um Beija-Flor” that moved 40,000 units. A lawsuit brought by Os Nativos triggered a lengthy judicial process that ultimately prompted the change to Natiruts. EMI’s subsequent reissue of the debut propelled sales to 450,000 copies. Povo Brasileiro generated hits with both “Povo Brasileiro” and “Proteja-se e Lute,” while Verbalize found traction through its title track.
