Biography
Formed in response to a classified ad seeking collaborators for building dense layers of wordless sound, the ambient instrumental post-rock group Joy Wants Eternity first assembled inside a Seattle basement during fall 2003. Emory Liu on drums, Salvador Huerta on guitar, Michael Sterling on guitar, Rob Thompson on guitar and Rhodes, and Daniel Salo on Rhodes, bass, and guitar made up the resulting five-piece. The band augments its live shows with video projections and other media. Summer 2004 saw the recording of their debut EP, Must You Smash Your Ears Before You Learn to Listen with Your Eyes, which appeared officially in spring 2005. The group’s first full-length album, You Who Pretend to Sleep, reached listeners by May 2007.
