Biography
Illinois native Julia Lucille launched her music career in Portland, Oregon while pursuing ethnomusicology studies at Lewis & Clark College, fusing ethereal dream pop textures with austere folk leanings. In 2010 she issued the LP Flowers and Bones alongside fellow student Barra Brown, then delivered her first solo release, Homing, two years later. Her dark-hued style evoked the winsome loneliness of German folkstress Sibylle Baier, a noted influence, while adding experimental indie contours. After returning to California she spent several years shaping new songs, some of which surfaced in 2016 as the lo-fi demo set Bedroom Tapes, Vol. 1. A relocation to Texas produced the panoramic and more fully realized Chthonic, recorded in Dripping Springs with Cross Record members Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski and issued in 2017 by Austin indie Keeled Scales.
