Biography
Austrian musician and visual artist Stefan Juster, connected to the enigmatic Virtual Institute Vienna, shapes intricate and invigorating electronic works under the Jung An Tagen name. Rapidly coiling, luminous sonic layers define his sound, at times layered with entrancing kick patterns, a quality audible throughout the 2018 album Agent Im Objekt. Although his output carries pronounced synaesthetic qualities and he trained as a visual designer, Juster opts to stage his live sets in complete darkness.
Since the 2000s he has issued material under numerous aliases, placing noise and drone pieces on Blackest Rainbow and Ikuisuus while issuing tape-warped psychedelia and cosmic disco as Cruise Family through Not Not Fun and his own SF Broadcasts cassette label. Straightforward techno experiments appeared under the name Alex Strelka. Jung An Tagen surfaced initially via the Vielheiten cassette in early 2014, then continued with the hypnotic abstractions of Äussere, released by Orange Milk in 2015. The project joined Editions Mego for Das Fest Der Reichen in 2016 before delivering the rhythm-oriented Agent Im Objekt in 2018.
