Hailing from Dunedin in New Zealand, Kane Strang works as a singer-songwriter whose music centers on lo-fi guitar pop touched by British psychedelia. His background featured a household filled with musicians, among them his grandfather, several uncles, and a father active as a rock bassist. During his early years he embraced the guitar, following a period spent playing clarinet at school. Not long after finishing secondary education, he helped launch the indie rock outfit Dinosaur Sanctuary. The band’s debut album, A Public Toilet Told Me Nothing Gets Better, appeared in 2013, its sessions completed before Strang spent a brief period in Germany accompanied by a friend. That same year brought his first solo outing, A Pebble and a Paper Crane, a set of demos tracked inside a World War II bomb shelter in Germany. Upon resettling in Dunedin he concentrated on new compositions that formed his introductory release for Flying Nun Records in New Zealand and Ba Da Bing Records in North America. Issued in February 2016, the album carried the title Blue Cheese. Moving beyond bedroom production to a full studio and joining forces with his touring musicians, he issued the follow-up Two Hearts and No Brain in June 2017, this time under the Dead Oceans imprint.
