Kellie Coffey first stepped onto a stage at age nine, performing at the Oklahoma Opry while growing up in Moore, Oklahoma. She later attended the same high school as country star Toby Keith, where her musical interests persisted. At the University of Oklahoma her commitment to music intensified through roles in musicals and other performance events. She then moved to Los Angeles to build a singing career, landing work on demos along with sessions for television, film, and audio tracks created for Disney theme parks. Regular songwriting journeys to Nashville brought a publishing contract with Warner Chappell and, soon after, a recording agreement with BNA. Her debut single, “When You Lie Next to Me,” appeared at the end of 2001 and introduced the Dan Huff-produced album that followed the next summer.
