Biography
Known for blending country with pop sensibilities, Rebecca Lynn Howard spent her early years in Salyersville, KY before relocating to Nashville in 1997 and embarking on a songwriting career. Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire, Lila McCann, and John Michael Montgomery all recorded her material. Once she stepped behind the microphone herself, Howard incorporated adult contemporary pop elements alongside country traditions, echoing the boundary-crossing strategy of Shania Twain. A period of revisions delayed the arrival of her self-titled debut album until spring 2000. Though it achieved modest sales, the project failed to generate the broad attention many had forecast. Returning to the studio, she adjusted her sound by trimming some of the more overt commercial touches from the debut while introducing newer ingredients, yielding the stronger response that greeted 2002’s Forgive. No Rules appeared in 2008.
