Born with the legal name Kenny Segal, the Maryland native who had performed as the Los Angeles drum'n'bass artist Syndakit adopted the former as his hip-hop alias after crossing paths with West Coast alt-rap collective Freestyle Fellowship near the close of the 1990s. In addition to his work behind the decks and in the studio, the DJ and producer plays cello, keyboards, and percussion. He relocated to L.A. in 1997 to study computer engineering, yet soon switched his focus to audio recording. As his profile grew within the city's underground, Segal helped launch On Point Records in 1998 while participating in the drum'n'bass outfit the Helium Crew, and he became a fixture at the Konkrete Jungle club events. Within those electronic circles he first encountered Freestyle Fellowship MC P.E.A.C.E. at Spaceland around 1999. The connection steered Segal toward hip-hop and drew him deeper into the L.A. underground scene. He went on to helm full projects for P.E.A.C.E. (Megabite [2004]) and Phoenix Orion (3080 Flux [2002]) while supplying beats to numerous releases tied to Project Blowed and Freestyle Fellowship. Additional commissions came for television spots and adult films. His debut proper album under either moniker, the largely instrumental Ken Can Cook, surfaced in 2008 on the Project Blowed label.
