Kindred

Hailing from the Caribbean, Kindred is a duo whose world-music approach carries a distinctly urban edge. The act, made up of Omari and Akinde, came together in 1992 and soon ranked among the foremost acts in Trinidad and Tobago. Right from the start the pair wrote and produced all their material, labeling the results “new conscious dance music,” and between 1992 and 1995 they issued the singles “Dis Trini Could Flow,” “Doh Stop,” “Freedom Jam,” and “Get On.” Their first album, Everything Is Everything, appeared in 1996, followed two years later by Big Stone And Fire. Those two projects opened doors beyond the region, most visibly when the clip for “Do You Like It” gained rotation on the U.S. network Black Entertainment Television (BET). Outside his work with Kindred, Omari also produces other Caribbean artists.
