Biography
Born to a pair of genetic engineers as a first-generation Canadian, Koushik Ghosh—sibling to Himadri Ghosh of the techno outfit Teste—operates solely under his given name while producing and singing for Stones Throw, the label helmed by Peanut Butter Wolf. Having spun records since the age of fourteen, he spent his formative years beyond Hamilton, Ontario, where he pursued Indian classical vocal training alongside his mother and absorbed sounds from My Bloody Valentine, Funkadelic, later embracing the work of Madlib and Jay Dee. Upon earning master's degrees in biostatistics and ethnomusicology at the University of Vermont, he issued Be With in 2005, an album whose diverse sonic palette mirrors his broad listening habits and draws tracks from his prior EPs Be With, One in a Day, and Battle Times. Earlier, he contributed lyrics and vocals to a pair of tracks on the 2003 release Up in Flames by Manitoba, the project subsequently known as Caribou. His eagerly anticipated debut full-length, Out My Window, arrived in 2008 and shared notable similarities with Caribou's Andorra from the previous year.
