Biography
Possessing a voice steeped in soul, Kristina Train channels her artistry into pop laced with rustic country textures and R&B inflections. New York City marks her birthplace, though Savannah, Georgia, became the setting of her upbringing, where church services and violin instruction formed the core of her early musical experiences. The year 1999 saw her enlist with the soul collective the Looters, frequently supplying support vocals for Rosa King during live engagements. Blue Note Records expressed interest in signing the then-19-year-old to a deal, yet Train opted for higher education instead, devoting several years to regional performances alongside coursework at the University of Georgia in Athens. She ultimately abandoned her studies, returning to New York City, where Blue Note renewed its pursuit and secured her signature on a contract. England became her next base, allowing her to develop songs alongside producer Jimmy Hogarth as well as songwriters Eg White (Adele) and Ed Harcourt. Her first full-length project, Spilt Milk, appeared in 2009, followed in 2012 by the sophomore album Dark Black, on which she once more collaborated with Harcourt.
