In 2003 the French pop quartet KYO reached their commercial peak. Multiple nods at NRJ’s yearly music awards produced three trophies for best French album, song, and group. Attention focused on the band’s second LP, Le Chemin (The Way), and its chart-topping title track, which served as the lead single and remained a fixture on European playlists for the entire year. The success turned the four photogenic fellows from Paris into household names. Nicolas Chassagne, Benoit Poher, and brothers Florian Dubos and Fabien Dubos had already drawn notice with their self-titled debut in 2000, yet it was the textured, slightly electronicized pop of “Le Chemin”—a duet with Dutch songstress Sita—that cemented their sleek, Depeche Mode-meets-BBMak aesthetic.
