Aly Spaltro records and performs as Lady Lamb, the stage name she adopted after first appearing as Lady Lamb the Beekeeper. Her songs merge folk, pop, and indie rock into an inventive and captivating whole. Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1990, she moved with her family to Brunswick, Maine, in 2003. An avid filmgoer, she often visited Bart & Greg's DVD Explosion, the local video rental store. After finishing high school she worked there during a gap year before starting art school. While closing the shop at night, the owners permitted her to stay on and use the premises as an informal studio, where she wrote and tracked material on basic equipment from late evening until dawn. In 2007 she began issuing home-recorded songs accompanied by her own artwork and sold through a nearby record shop, billing herself Lady Lamb the Beekeeper after a phrase she had scribbled in her journal. Seeking wider musical experience, she relocated to Portland, Maine, in 2008 and quickly gained attention on the local circuit. Brooklyn, New York’s Ba Da Bing Records invited her to make an album in 2013; the resulting Ripely Pine marked her first nationally distributed release. It drew strong reviews and supported extensive touring throughout the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom. She next signed with Mom + Pop Records and delivered the 2015 album After, which appeared on Billboard’s rock, independent, and Heatseekers charts. Late in 2016 she released the introspective Tender Warriors Club EP and simultaneously shortened her performing name to Lady Lamb.
