In mid-2002 Lady May, a female rapper, entered the circle of Eve, Truth Hurts and Charli Baltimore once her duet “Round Up” with urban chanteuse Blu Cantrell became an MTV smash. Still only in her early twenties, the artist born Rhonda Robinson grew up in Central Islip, a Long Island suburb. She quit school at fifteen to dance in videos for LL Cool J and Jodeci, yet remained restless because rap music was her true vocation. Linking with producer Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie, she laid down her debut album May Day, which never reached stores on its intended August 2002 release date.
