In 2001 the Mora siblings—Pablo on vocals and guitar, Patricia at the keyboards with additional vocals, and José on bass and guitar—teamed up with guitarist Chema Buhigas to launch the Madrid-based Spanish pop outfit Lagarto Amarillo. Their first full-length release, Que la Suerte Te Acompañe, appeared in 2003, yet widespread attention arrived only in 2007 once the song “Cuéntame” from the follow-up album Distinto was picked as the central theme for the immensely popular series Cuéntame Como Pasó. Buhigas exited the lineup shortly afterward, leaving the remaining three members to proceed as a trio; they later issued Estoy Mintiendo de Verdad in 2012. The band’s bright, upbeat pop sound gains its particular flavor from an easy blending of rumba, rap, Latin, and broader world-music influences.
