Biography
Lamplight serves as the vehicle for Ian Hatcher-Williams’s alternately hopeful, anxious, and daydreamy reflections, which the ethereal-voiced alternative singer/songwriter channels through his music. The Virginian’s debut full-length, also titled Lamplight and released in 2024, wove together folk-rock, alt-country, soft rock, and Beatlesque psychedelic inspirations to examine themes of life and uncertainty.
Ian Hatcher-Williams grew up inside a New Age community in Virginia, where he eventually married a childhood friend, performed with multiple bands, and pursued studies in design and programming prior to taking a position in design technology in New York. The pressures of that professional path and urban environment eventually proved exhausting, prompting him and his wife to relocate back to Virginia. While still based in Brooklyn, he encountered Kevin Copeland of Lightning Bug, whose encouragement led Hatcher-Williams to bring music back into his daily routine. Working under the Lamplight name, he addressed questions of identity, belonging, and personal growth on the resulting debut album, which Copeland produced during this period of change. The intimate Lamplight LP reached listeners via Western Vinyl in March 2024.
