American conductor Lance Friedel pursued his training at Boston University, the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, and the University of Music in Vienna before finishing his studies at New York’s Mannes School of Music. His conducting instructors included Gustav Meier, Michael Charry, and Georg Tintner, while further guidance came through master classes with Leonard Slatkin, André Previn, and Lorin Maazel. He also attended the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg along with the Aspen Music Festival and the Tanglewood Music Festival. First prize at the 2001 Mario Gusella International Conductors Competition in Pescara, Italy, marked an early milestone. Among the ensembles he has led are the Providence Chamber Orchestra, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Berlin Sinfonietta, and the London Symphony Orchestra, as well as numerous additional groups. For Naxos and MSR Classics he has produced recordings of orchestral works by Carl Nielsen and Josef Bohuslav Foerster.
