Emerging from the 1990 breakup of Quasar, Landmarq took shape with Steve Leigh on keys, Uwe D'Rose on guitar, and Bob Daisley handling vocals. Bassist Steve Gee joined the fold next, followed by drummer Dave Wagstaffe. The band started laying down demos in 1991, but Daisley exited that year, forcing a search for fresh vocal talent. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, including one involving Tracy Hitchings, Damian Wilson stepped in. This configuration delivered the debut album Solitary Witness in 1992, with Infinity Parade appearing later the same year. Wilson departed before the year ended, prompting the short-lived addition of Ian Gould; Wilson soon returned in his place. The Vision Pit surfaced in 1995. Label complications and related setbacks kept the group out of the studio until 1995, when Science of Coincidence was recorded with Tracy Hitchings back on vocals; the live set Thunderstruck was issued around the same time.
