Threshold formed in the greater London region in 1989 with an initial roster consisting of Damian Wilson, Karl Groom, Nick Midson, Jon Jeary, Richard West, and Tony Grinham. Their first album, Wounded Land, reached the public in 1993. Wilson soon departed for other projects, leaving the group without a singer. Glynn Morgan was recruited to fill the position. Grinham exited before work began on the second album. Consequently, Psychedelicatessen was tracked in 1995 with temporary drumming supplied by Nick Harradence of Shadowland. Jay Micciche later joined on a permanent basis that same year. The lineup then issued the EP Livedelica. Morgan and Micciche both left in 1996 to start Mindfeed. Extinct Instinct was therefore cut with session drummer Mark Heaney. Wilson had rejoined in time to record vocals for the album. By 1998 Wilson had left once more, so Andrew "Mac" McDermott handled lead vocals on Clone. Heaney remained through the completion of Clone before departing, after which Johanne James assumed the drum chair. Hypothetical appeared in 2001.
