Pagan's Mind originated in Skien, Norway, during 2000 as a progressive power metal act centered on vocalist Nils K. Rue, drummer Stian Kristoffersen, and guitarist Thorstein Aaby. The lineup later expanded to five members, and the group issued its debut album Infinity Divine that same year. Both critics and the prog/power metal underground responded favorably to the record. A second album, Celestial Entrance, arrived next under Fredrik Nordström's production and generated wider attention beyond Norway, resulting in a Limb Music contract and a 2004 re-release of Infinity Divine that included bonus material along with re-recorded tracks. Founding guitarist Thorstein Aaby exited in 2003 and died four years later. The band approached its third album as a concept work, unveiling Enigmatic : Calling in 2005. That release reached the Norwegian top twenty and earned festival slots at ProgPower Europe, Sweden Rock Festival, and Rjukan Rock. The group headlined a tour of England in the latter half of 2005. Its fourth album, God's Equation, followed in late 2007.
