Lauren Auder, an artist who bends genres and began creating music during her early teenage years, reshapes elements drawn from rap, ambient textures, electronic production, and classical composition into ornate baroque pop tracks steeped in Christian and mythical imagery. Her distinctive approach first surfaced across a run of EPs that opened with Who Carry's You in 2018, before reaching a more elaborate and dramatic culmination with the full-length the infinite spine, issued in 2023.

Born in London in 1998, Auder grew up in the South of France alongside her music journalist mother and father. From childhood onward she absorbed a wide range of sounds, taking in classic '70s rock alongside emo and rap. During her teenage period she performed with several alt-rock bands before branching out independently a few years later, joining forces with slowthai, Oklou, and Jeshi on atmospheric, moody pieces that circulated online. Denzel Himself and Kojey Radical, both admirers of her work, contributed to the 2015 EP Equus. After relocating to London in 2016, Auder continued honing her material and eventually secured a deal with True Panther. The label issued her official debut EP, Who Carry's You, in April 2018; the project carried production from DVIANCE and reflected the influence of composer Maurice Duruflé.

Identifying Scott Walker as a major inspiration, Auder followed up with two caves in in early 2020. Later that same year she joined Caroline Polachek for a rendition of Virginia Astley's "Some Small Hope." The 5 Songs for the Dysphoric EP, released in early 2021, featured a cinematic collaboration with R&B singer Celeste. Continuing to expand the complexity and range of her music, Auder delivered her full-length debut, the infinite spine, via True Panther in July 2023.
