Biography
Nigerian American R&B artist Lekan crafts a honeyed sound that fuses vintage soul textures with present-day sensibilities. Early notice arrived through tracks such as the 2023 single “Familiar,” paving the way for his first extended release, the 2024 EP So You Know.
Brooklyn-born and raised in Columbus, Ohio after his Nigerian family’s relocation, Lekan received his initial musical grounding from his father, who directed a church choir. During childhood he studied both drums and piano, later channeling teenage admiration for Donny Hathaway and D’Angelo alongside the Weeknd into his own songwriting. After settling in Los Angeles he issued further 2023 singles including “Need Somebody” and “Pray for Me.” The following year saw the arrival of So You Know, after which he served as opening act for Tems on tour.
