Biography
Lenola originated in 1994 when guitarist/vocalist Jay Laughlin first shaped it as a four-track solo effort. Later that year the project expanded into a complete band once guitarist David Grubb and drummer Sean Byrne joined, three musicians who had previously crossed paths in separate hardcore groups throughout their home state of New Jersey. After bassist Scott Colan completed the lineup, Lenola issued several singles on the band’s own Tappersize label and then delivered its debut full-length, The Last 10 Feet of the Suicide Mile, in late 1996, an album that foregrounded the group’s guitar-heavy approach. Their next album, The Swerving Corpse, appeared in late 1997; the following year they collected material recorded between the two LPs on a pair of EPs, The Resurrection of the Close-Up on the Magic Spot for Fuzzy Box and The Day the Laughter Smelled for Blackbeanandplacenta. My Invisible Name surfaced in 1999 and simultaneously ended the band’s association with Tappersize. Treat Me to Some Life reached listeners in spring 2001.
