Biography
Originally a founding member of Destiny's Child, LeToya Luckett moved forward quickly after departing the superstar pop-R&B group alongside Latavia Roberson soon after the 1999 arrival of The Writing's on the Wall. The pair learned with surprise that they would not appear in the accompanying "Say My Name" video. Luckett formed Anjel with Roberson, yet the project ended without issuing any recordings. She subsequently launched an upscale boutique in Houston, Texas, spent a short time in Los Angeles, and secured a 2003 deal with Capitol. Her debut promotional single, "U Got What I Need," surfaced in 2004; the following year brought "All Eyes on Me" plus a track for the Coach Carter soundtrack. "Torn" reached radio in 2006 and climbed to number two on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. That July her self-titled first album, which gathered every prior single, arrived and later earned platinum certification. Lady Love, her sophomore set, appeared in August 2009, topped the same Billboard chart, and included the hits "Not Anymore" and the Ludacris collaboration "Regret." Over the ensuing years she accepted multiple acting roles, among them the lead in Preacher's Kid, while maintaining recurring television appearances on Treme, Single Ladies, Ballers, and Here We Go Again, where she served as a co-star. In 2017 Luckett issued her third solo album, Back 2 Life, via eOne.
