Born in New Jersey to Cuban-American parents yet raised in Maryland, Christina Milian stepped into acting as a child by taking a role in a musical aimed at young audiences. She also worked as a junior journalist for The Walt Disney Company and appeared in guest spots on Sister Sister, Clueless, and various other popular television series. Her focused pursuit of music began with a featured vocal on Ja Rule’s “Between Me and You,” while she simultaneously co-wrote Jennifer Lopez’s “Play” and P.Y.T.’s “Same Ol Same Ol” during sessions for her self-titled R&B/pop debut album, issued in 2001. Although that project performed more strongly in the U.K., the single “AM to PM” still reached the Top 30 on the U.S. Hot 100. Far greater domestic impact came with 2004’s It’s About Time, propelled by the Top Ten hit “Dip It Low.” Her third album, So Amazin’, arrived in 2006 with Cool & Dre handling nearly every track, and the single “Say I” featuring Young Jeezy climbed to number 21. The 2008 release “Us Against the World” found chart success in Great Britain, and she later joined Lil Wayne on the 2012 Top 20 dance single “Hello.”
