Danity Kane emerged as the third act assembled via the reality series Making the Band, following the earlier lineups of O-Town and Da Band. Five vocalists—Aubrey, Aundrea, D. Woods, Dawn, and Shannon—survived an extended audition process that began with hundreds of aspirants and spanned two full seasons of on-camera competition. Music mogul and Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy personally selected the lineup, envisioning the women as his answer to En Vogue or Destiny’s Child. A subsequent season documented both the recording sessions for their debut album and the search for a suitable group name. During a June 2006 visit to MTV’s TRL, the name Danity Kane was unveiled; the title referenced a superhero character that Dawn had drawn and developed during idle moments in the studio. The same broadcast introduced the group’s first single, the club track “Show Stopper,” which featured fellow Bad Boy artist Yung Joc. Production on the self-titled debut album came from Scott Storch and Timbaland, and the project reached stores in August 2006. After a 2007 package tour alongside Christina Aguilera and the Pussycat Dolls, the quintet issued its second full-length release, Welcome to the Dollhouse, the following year.
