Nivea first gained notice through her collaboration with Mystikal on the hit single “Danger.” Issued by Jive in 2001, her self-titled debut album was re-released the next year after both “Danger” and “Don’t Mess with the Radio” gained traction. The latter track was produced jointly by Nivea and Organized Noize, the team behind TLC’s “Waterfalls,” and featured guest vocals from Jagged Edge members Brian and Brandon Casey. R. Kelly handled production on “Ya Ya Ya,” which reached listeners in November 2002. Early the following year, “Don’t Mess with My Man” received a Grammy nomination in the category of Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Her sophomore effort, Complicated, arrived in 2005 and yielded just one modest success, the Lil Jon-produced cut “Okay.”
