Biography
Língua de Trapo originated in 1979 under the name Laert Sarrumor e Os Cúmplices before adopting its permanent identity the following year. The group initially concentrated on ironic humor fused with Brazilian and international pop elements. Its most successful commercial release arrived in 1985 when the brega track “Os Metaleiros Também Amam,” written by Carlos Melo and Aírton Mugnaini Jr., was unveiled at the Festival dos Festivais. The self-titled debut album appeared in 1982, followed by two further releases in 1985 and 1986 that earned the band the APCA prize from São Paulo’s Association of Art Critics. Activities ceased between 1987 and 1991. Upon resuming, the lineup consisted of Laert Sarrumor, Valmir Valentim on drums, Serginho Gama on guitar, Cacá Lima on bass, and Zé Mileto on keyboards. Two additional albums surfaced in 1995 and 2000, after which the ensemble moved away from its earlier comedic focus. Among its notable songs are “Conchetta” by Carlos Melo and Cassiano Roda, “Amor à Vista” by Laert Sarrumor, and “Xingu Disco” by Carlos Melo and Laert Sarrumor.
