Lioness

In 1997, bassist Ronnie Morris of Controller.Controller teamed up with drummer Jeff Scheven and vocalist Vanessa Fischer, previously of No Dynamics, to launch Toronto, Ontario, Canada’s Lioness. Their sound fused Black Sabbath-style riffs with electro-house rhythms and synths à la Daft Punk beneath commanding vocals. New Romantic Records issued the trio’s self-titled debut EP in late 2008, after which they opened for !!!, Hercules & Love Affair, and You Say Party! We Say Die! on shows that included Scheven’s projected visuals. While the band kept developing new material, Scheven also directed videos for TV on the Radio and Diamond Rings. Mid-2011 found the group entering the studio with producer Leon Taheny to cut its first album, The Golden Killer, which appeared in June 2012.
