Biography
Little Jackie takes its name from Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam’s 1989 single “Little Jackie Wants to Be a Star.” The project unites vocalist Imani Coppola and programmer Adam Pallin, with longtime Coppola associate Mike Mangini—whose credits include Leaders of the New School, Digable Planets, and Joss Stone—handling production and songwriting duties. Although the music extends Coppola’s earlier solo work, the lyrics land with greater sharpness while the sound reaches back to still-vivid eras ranging from late-’60s soul to golden age hip-hop. Their debut album, Stoop, arrived on S-Curve in July 2008.
